…but they search for survivors in Japan.
Following the earthquake in Japan, the Search Dog Foundation quickly deployed teams of canines to help hunt through the wreckage looking for survivors. Strikingly, the dogs used in this program are not bred for their job, but rather are adopted from shelters. In fact, the foundation actively seeks out the most rambunctious animals (dogs that would likely be euthanized if not saved by this program) and trains them to effectively perform their duties, tirelessly hunting for life in the aftermath of disasters both in the US and abroad.
As you might imagine, the training involved and the supplies needed to keep this organization afloat require significant funding. While the Search Dog Foundations’ current efforts in Japan have technically already been funded, if you’d like to support this organization, philanthroper.com (a site that pools dollar donations for different vetted causes) has a $1 special running this week to gather donations for this worthy cause that helps humans and canines alike.
